The haunted bride [completed] Season 2

☆☆

The story continues…

Elena couldn’t shake off the feeling of the mysterious presence that she had felt back at the white house. Something was definitely not right about the figure she had seen; she was quite sure that she wasn’t hallucinating. There had been a figure! It was cloaked in a black dress, but she couldn’t see its face.
“You don’t look focused. Snap out of whatever you’re thinking, I am introducing you to some important board members of the Gamed Village.” Aniekan noticed the faraway look in her eyes. From the moment he’d met her by the corridor, he had sensed Elena was troubled. But he couldn’t interfere. Already he harbored some feelings for her, and he felt this wasn’t right.

Elena was staying with him in the White House because she couldn’t pay in cash for almost ruining his brand. Attempting or considering a romantic relationship with her wasn’t an honorable thing to do; and he was a man of honor. Besides, Elena was far younger than he was. Though he’d considered these factors, it wasn’t that easy to keep his eyes away from her distracting beauty.

“I am focused,” Elena mumbled as she got into the car, after him. She’d noticed a change in Aniekan, after spending some time in the White House. At first, he had been very friendly and playful, but he was different now. He seemed reserved and far-off. Was he avoiding her? Was she irascible? Was there a character that she exhibited that put him off?
Normally, Elena wouldn’t bother herself with what people thought; but this wasn’t any person. Aniekan was a tech-billionaire. And a man she was crushing on! Yes, she had finally admitted it. She had a crush on Aniekan, and it started from the day that Ese and his thugs, had arrested her.

He said nothing. He cast a glance at her taut chin and wondered if he had said anything to upset her. Well, he had to treat her that way. Maybe being harsh would make her hate him; maybe her hatred would kill the feelings that grew every day.

Once he started the car, Elena quickly pulled out a book to keep herself busy during the ride. Since her blog, “Reflections,” was taken down because of her libelous piece on Aniekan, she hadn’t written or researched for a long time. Her fingers itched to hold a pen and scribble down some ideas. Her nails yearned for the keys of her laptop.

Elena sighed and flipped a page open, “I miss writing…” she muttered under her breath, but loud enough, for Aniekan to hear her.
He stole glances from her occasionally. Although she was quite young, Elena knew what she wanted in life. She was determined and hard working. It hurt him to know that she had been having financial troubles in school. He felt like prying into her family, but he refrained from doing so. Elena was a good person. He felt it. He would do everything within his power, to help her.
“At what age did you start writing?” He smiled.

For a second, Elena thought she had heard his voice in her head. Truth was, she wasn’t really focusing on the book. All she could think of, was Aniekan’s seductive perfume. He smelt really nice. And the light blue shirt that he wore, flattered his rich dark complexion.
“Um…” Elena shut the book and raised her eyes to meet him.

Her heart jolted, like thunder had struck it. Everything in her went still as she stared into the well of his dark eyes. A powerful force pulled her in, and she could feel his connection too. Whenever she opened her mouth to speak, no words came out. Her mind was blank. Her thoughts had been consumed by thoughts of him. She couldn’t think straight.

Aniekan noticed the fiery attraction they shared. Her eyes radiated pure desire, and it scared him. He felt like pulling her soft and tiny body into his arms. He wanted to hug her and kiss her hair. He would also tell her how beautiful she was.

But everything was all in his head. He could never be with someone like Elena. Quickly, Aniekan pulled his eyes off her pretty face, and stared back at the road. When he did this, Elena blushed. She could tell immediately, that he had seen the passion she felt for him.

She was embarrassed!
“I started writing from fifteen…” she stuttered, but he cut in.
“Save it, I need you to focus now. We are almost there. Everyone is waiting for us.”
First, she didn’t like the way Aniekan had spoken to her. Why had he dismissed her like a little kid? And why was everyone waiting for them?

“You didn’t have to be rude, you know,” Elena snapped at him when they approached the massive blue building, which represented the office that Aniekan had created; the Games Village.

Her eyes popped in awe as Aniekan drove past a tall gate and parked in a special lot, assigned for him. All her life, she had only seen buildings like this in movies. It had more than fifty floors. And the shade of blue with which it was painted, stood out. The building glowed like a sapphire in the dark.
“I wasn’t rude. When you grow up, you’ll learn not to take things too personally.” These were his last words to her, before he stepped down from the car, and walked away.
Elena ground her teeth in irritation. It seemed Aniekan was deliberately being petty. She was determined not to let his annoying words stick to her. She quickly reminded herself that she was only here, because of the crime she had committed. If she had reviewed her news source more carefully, she wouldn’t be in the front of his car, wondering what she had done to offend him.

“Lord help me,” Elena sighed and got out.
She didn’t know how long she would stay at the White House. But she couldn’t run away. Her mother had not been very comfortable with her stay in the White House, but she had managed to convince the woman that Aniekan was a good person. Now, she didn’t know what to believe anymore.
Elena grabbed her bag carefully and trailed behind Aniekan, who was seven steps ahead of her. She noticed how men and women bowed as he walked past. They worshipped him like a god. She also noticed how warmly Aniekan received the greetings. He always smiled or nodded his head, or responded in kind. He was full of grace.

He wasn’t such a bad guy. His workers loved him. The way he chuckled and laughed loudly with them, made her feel bad. Why couldn’t he treat her the same way?
Determined to avoid Aniekan, and enjoy her stay at the Games Village and the White House, Elena pulled in a deep breath. She would prove to Aniekan that her crush on him couldn’t break her or give him the right to treat her anyhow.

“I can do this,” she breathed.
Aniekan had been conversing with one of his partners. Though Aniekan was the face of Games Village, and the designer of many video games, he had partners who bought shares from his company, when he had first started. They were the ones that supported his dreams. They believed in him, when others didn’t. He was deeply grateful for their financial support.

Today was an important day in Games Village. Aniekan was going to unveil the trailer of Demon Hall, so that all the members of the board and workers from each department would have a glimpse of what he had been working on. His partners couldn’t be left out on important days like this.

“It’s been a very long time Aniekan. I only remembered that I haven’t seen you this year after reading the news of your supposed idea theft. I must say, it was an interesting read. Whoever penned that down was paid to destroy your image.” Aniekan’s partner laughed.

Aniekan himself couldn’t resist the urge to share in the laughter. He was only worried that Elena could be close. He knew he had hurt her this morning by being harsh and inconsiderate. He wanted to be far from her, but he didn’t want Elena to hate or resent him.

“Nah, she wasn’t paid. She is a very sweet and down to earth person.” Aniekan replied with a smile.

“You seem to have met her already,” Seun smirked. He and Aniekan had been friends for a very long time. Aniekan was about answering, when he noticed a sparkle in Seun’s eyes. He followed the direction of his partner’s gaze, and found it on the fair skinned lady that approached. Elena.
